A Guide for the design and implementation of a service-learning (SL)

CHAPTER I CHAPTER II CHAPTER III CHAPTER IV

This chapter is intended to be a practical section where all the proposed activities for the implementation of SL in a course are presented. In this chapter it will be possible to design and plan the different stages of a course implementation. The purpose is that this work, which seems difficult, will be useful for the following versions of the course in order to reduce the workload of the teaching team and only fine tune the details of what has already been done.

Activity: Feasibility assessment These guiding questions are designed so that those that may be answered in an affirmative manner support the feasibility of applying the methodology. There are others that help to think about the implementation from the internal resources of the course, which could benefit or be benefited by the methodology. It is possible to think about the possible services that may be applied to answer the following questions.

2. What weaknesses of the course may affect the incorporation of the methodology?

Assess the internal difficulties that the course may present, i.e., those elements that hinder the work with the community, such as time constraints to generate spaces for reflection and/or supervision, the inability to articulate the objectives of the course in a practical way, etc.

1. ¿ What strengths of the course could help to the incorporation of the methodology? To value the internal strengths of the course that can facilitate the work with the community, such as, for example, the existence of a space for professor supervision, previous knowledge of the students that may be of importance for the service delivery, support from assistants, etc.

3. What theoretical contents may be applied through a service project?

Consider the relevance of integrating and/or adapting the theoretical contents of the course to a practical community service activity.
